Break Free from Being Overwhelmed

Feeling overwhelmed by your massive "to-do" list? Join the club.

For most of us, this seems to be the rule rather than the exception.

Do you find yourself thinking:

  • I have to finish this. I've got too much on my plate and I'll never get it all done.
  • How did I get myself into this mess?

If you're like me you probably feel that you will be less overwhelmed when you finally get a bunch of stuff done.

But that day never seems to arrive!

So how do we deal with this ?

How can we turn it around and be more productive and less stressed?

An interesting solution is offered by Adam Kayce in a free ebook he wrote, appropriately called "Silencing Overwhelm".

You can get a copy by subscribing to his RSS feed or his weekly newsletter at the Monk at Work blog.

I have to tell you that this book really resonated with me.

It's a quick read (30 pages) with no fluff, no hype, and it's not a presell.

There are no affiliate links, just good quality content.

"Silencing Overwhelm" is also not some new time management program. It is about approaching your workload from a totally different perspective.

We have all had the experience when things just seem to "flow". It's like you are in a "zone".

Adam refers to this state as "containment", a state of being in which your heart is at peace and you are operating from your heart: that part of you deep within yourself where everything feels "right".

Imagine being able to operate from your heart more often or all the time.

Adam offers a simple method to accomplish this he calls "remembrance".

Imagine having the ability to access that place deep within where everything you do is based on inspiration and intuition.

That is what "remembrance" is all about. A simple practice that allows you to access that state of "containment" where you can be more productive and more at peace with yourself.

Sounds good, doesn't it?

"Silencing Overwhelm" also includes an exercise to apply these techniques to reorganize and prioritize your workload. Great advice.

This is a spiritual book but it grounded very much in the practical.

The funny thing for me is that I have been actively involved in spiritual life for many years but I still suffer from being overwhelmed because I never really new how to apply my spirit to the rest of my life.

After reading Adam's book I realized that I was not making that connection to my heart. Or if I was, I would lose it quickly when things started to pile up and my mind would start its endless chatter.

Now I know that I need to keep in "remembrance" and operate from there. For me, this is very exciting.

I realize that this may not be for everybody.

Spiritual practices may not be mainstream in this day and age, but to paraphrase the great poet Robert Frost, I have decided to take the road less traveled, and that has made all the difference.

As I mentioned before, you can get a free copy of "Silencing Overwhelm" by subscribing to the Monk at Work RSS feed or the weekly newsletter.
