Why Are Internet Marketers Blogging?

blogging for internet marketers

The obvious answer to this question is that internet marketers are blogging to make money online.

Many internet marketing blogs are really collections of mini sales letters for affiliate programs.

I admit to being guilty of this.

Most of these blogs also sprinkle in some "how-to" guides and product reviews that do serve a purpose, especially for beginners.

However, a blog has the potential to be so much more than this.

I have been thinking very deeply of late regarding what I really want to share with readers of this blog and then I read a post from Maki at DoshDosh called "What You Don't Publish Defines Your Site".

I found this post very inspiring and thought-provoking.

Maki wrote about how he only tries to blog when he feels he has something interesting to say and bemoaned the fact that so many blogs are loaded with repetitive, generic information.

He goes on to say that while it is impossible to always be totally original and unique, you can control what you publish and what you do NOT publish to influence your readers perception of you.

What is important here is to brand yourself by creating an identity based on your content.

Maki has accomplished this by providing theoretical articles that make you think.

His article inspired me to write this post.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • do you just want to blog about the same generic "50 Ways To……" stuff or do you want to set yourself apart?
  • what do you want your content to say about you?

Regarding your content, I love this quote from Maki in a reply from the comments section:

All I’m saying in this article is that content can be used as a way to frame your website and influence how you want users to think about your brand.

Most people just talk about how content can be used to get links, traffic and subscribers. I’m talking about the overall identity or reputation that can be strategically created by carefully monitoring what you publish (or not).

I can think of some great examples of bloggers, publishers of authority sites, who have created a recognizable identity.

How about you? Who comes to your mind that fits this profile as an authority blogger?

Further, are you attempting to create your own voice? How?

If you are having trouble finding your voice, let us know and maybe we can come up with some suggestions for you.

I will write a follow-up to this post with your comments, including your links.
