Blog Commenting: A Very Useful Tip

In a recent webinar social marketing maven Jack Humphrey of the Authority Site Center revealed an extremely useful tip when leaving comments on blogs.

Jack pointed out that most of us leave a link to the homepage of our blog when making a comment.

However, we have many other links that we could leave as well.

Think about it.

You probably have many other resources to link to:

  • your Squidoo lenses and Hubpages
  • your profile on social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace
  • your profile on social news sites like Digg and StumbleUpon
  • your articles on article directory sites
  • specific posts within your blog

This way you can really spread your exposure.

What a great social power linking strategy.

Thanks Jack!

One more thing about blog commenting:

Maki at Dosh Dosh wrote a nice piece on "Rethinking Blog Comments: More Than Just a Quick Way To Get Web Traffic".

The important thing about blog commenting is NOT to just drop comments on blogs for the purpose of getting a link.

As Maki said:

"See blog comments as a way to network with the author, so that you’ll be able to obtain a particular benefit in the future. Think long-term: not just incoming traffic today but exposure down the road. Don’t just focus on getting an immediate return (visitors via your link drop) but use comments to develop relationships of ongoing value."

Commenting on blogs is a very useful strategy to drive traffic to your website.

Being creative with your links and adding value with your comments will increase the effectiveness of this strategy tremendously.
