Are the People in Your Life Helping or Hurting You?

"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,

nor stands in the way of sinners,

nor sits in the seat of scoffers…"

- Psalm 1

Self-help and personal development literature is chock full of the following advice: if you want to make changes in your life, it is extremely important that you associate with like-minded people and avoid those who are negative and non-supportive.

This wisdom is clearly evident in Psalm 1.

If You Want to Prosper, Admit Your Mistakes

"He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper,

but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy."

- Proverbs 28:13

Hiding and concealing your wrongdoings will not make them go away.

Owning up to your mistakes clears your conscience and opens a path to real personal growth.

Avoid Gossip and Criticizing Others

"Keep your tongue free from evil,

and your lips from speaking deceit."

- Psalm 34:13

How often do we find ourselves gossiping or speaking badly of others?

Unfortunately, this is quite commonplace in our society today.

This can serve as a major stumbling block to what we are trying to create in our lives: health, wealth, peace, meaningful relationships.

Forget About "New Age": Tap Into The Ancient Wisdom in Psalms and Proverbs

psalmsMany years ago, after reading many "new age", self-help, and personal development books by some of the most poular authors out there, I made what to me was an important discovery:

The foundation of all the teaching and advice in these writings can be found in scripture such as the Bible and the eastern Bhagavad-Gita.

So now, for wisdom, inspiration, instruction, and advice, I go straight to the source: scripture.

I was pleasantly reminded of this after reading a wonderful post by Cameron Schaefer on Schaefer's Blog entitled "7 Proverbs for Skilled Living".

Like me, Cameron engages in daily reading of scripture:

Nearly every morning for the past 5 years I have sat down and read a chapter from the book of Proverbs.  Since there are 31 in all it sets up nicely for reading one a day.  It continues to amaze me the depth of wisdom found in each chapter covering every area of life from relationships to money to career advice.  – Cameron Schaefer

Since Cameron shared some wisdom from Proverbs, I would like to offer the following from Psalms:

Joe Vitale's 5 Step "Spiritual Marketing" Formula for Creating Wealth

I was looking through my (massive) collection of ebooks that I have downloaded over the years, and I came across a copy of "Spiritual Marketing" by Joe Vitale.

Originally written in 2001, Joe, a.k.a. "Mr. Fire", outlines a 5 step formula to "easily create wealth from the inside out":

1. Know what you don’t want.

2. Select what you do want.

3. Clear all negative or limiting beliefs.

4. Feel what it would be like to have, do, or be what you want.

5. Let go. Act on your intuitive impulses and allow the results to manifest.

7 Tips to Start Your Day Off Right

How many of us start the day off abruptly awakened by the alarm clock?

Your first thought as you turn it off, or quickly hit the "snooze" button, is, "Oh no, I just want to stay in bed!"

I realize that quotes from the Bible may not be for everyone, but imagine how different your day would begin if your first thought was:

This is the day which the Lord has made;

Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

-Psalm 118:24

What a wonderful prayer!

What a wonderful thought to start your day!

The bottom line is that starting your day off in the "right" frame of mind will work wonders in helping you create the life you desire.
