Keyword Research: The Quick, Dirty, and Free Method
Performing keyword research is essential for success in any form of online marketing.
There are many tools that will assist you in this process.
Some are free, some are fairly cheap, and some can be very expensive and elaborate.
Personally, I have owned Ad Word Analyzer for a few years.
It is an extremely useful keyword research software tool developed by Jeff Alderson. It comes with free lifetime upgrades and is a good deal at the current price of $77.
However, that's not what this post is about.
Here is a free, "quick and dirty" way to do keyword research:
First of all, go to the site of your major competitor, or the sales page of the affiliate program you want to promote and record (or simply cut) the URL.
Go to the Google Adwords Keyword Tool and tick the box for "website content".
Enter the URL (or simply paste it) into the webpage URL box.
This will provide you with keywords related to the content on that page.
Here is an example using the sales page for Ad Word Analyzer:
As you can see, this provides you with information on keyword groups and keyword phrases within the group, along with an idea of the search volume and competition.
You can also use the drop-down menu on the right to select for "Match Type" - broad, phrase, or exact.
Using the "Add" links will automatically add these keywords for use in new adwords campaign.
This is a very useful free tool.
